About the Event
BAPTISM OR DEDICATION?
Have you noticed how different words can mean different things to different people? It happens all the time, even in churches, especially when people have attended different denominations.
At Colonial Woods, we believe that Baptism is outward sign of obedience that a believer makes for themselves to symbolize the change that has happened in their heart.
Since a baby or child is not old enough to make that decision yet, we do not baptize little ones. Instead, we offer baby dedication. Baby Dedication is a public statement of faith that parents make; that they are committed before God and the church to raise their child in a godly home and in to give their child every opportunity to accept Christ.
We take participation in one of our baby dedication services seriously, because of that, it is reserved for families who have been in consistent attendance at Colonial Woods for least 3-6 months.
HOW TO BE A PART OF A DEDICATION SERVICE
Fill out the Baby + Child Dedication Form. This lets us know that you are interested in being a part a baby dedication service.
Talk to our team. We will have a short phone interview to talk about your interest.
Invite loved ones. Grandparents, friends + family are all welcome at the service and will be asked to stand during the dedication.
3 STATEMENTS PARENTS ARE MAKING THROUGH BABY DEDICATION
#1: I am promising to raise my child with the principles of God’s Word (Deut. 6:1-10)
God has always entrusted His truths to parents to teach their children. In dedication we are saying, “Lord, I will raise up my child to understand your ways.”
#2: I am desiring that my child come to know Christ as his/her Savior at the earliest possible age. (Mark 10:13-16)
As parents, we cannot make decisions for our children, but we can have a wonderful impact on their lives. As we give them opportunity to hear about Christ and to see Christ in our lives, we will have opportunity to share Christ with them.
#3: I am praying that God will use my child for His glory. (1 Samuel 1:26-28)
The story of Hannah and Samuel is a beautiful truth. As God gave her the gift of a child, she gave her child to the Lord’s service. While every child will not go into full time ministry, dedication is saying, “Lord, please use my child for your glory.”
